JOB SUMMARY The Lead Teacher provides and supervises the provision of Renaissance School special educational services and other related duties under the supervision and/or direction of the Service Director and /or Clinical Coordinator. They will provide consultation and guidance to Special Education Teachers and provide education in accordance with established medical center policies and Maine Department of Education Special Education Regulations. The Lead Teacher will oversee the application of Special Education Law to instruction and educational service planning. # The Renaissance School is an educational and psychiatric day treatment program for primary and middle school special education students between 5 and 15 years of age and is licensed by the Maine Department of Education as a #Special Purpose School#. All children served are diagnosed by the sending Pupil Evaluation Team as having a behavioral impairment or emotional disturbance which severely impedes their ability to receive educational services in the sending school. Additionally, all children served by the Renaissance School and Renaissance Middle School have a diagnosis under DSM IV which necessitates psychiatric care. The student day runs from 8:30 AM to 3:00 Monday through Friday during the regular school year, and from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM during the extended school year (summer months). The school is closed on weekends and holidays. The school additionally follows the Auburn School Department school calendar and is closed to students for the same school vacations, teacher workshop days, and inclement weather cancellations. The school is staffed Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM except for hospital holidays. Staff is in attendance during school vacations.
